The creamy layer of orchids are often awarded by renouned orchid societies. American Orchid Society is an example and the largest orchid society that you might come across. AOS is a non-profit educational organisation and has established a good judging criteria. You might see something like this in capital letters along with the plant name AM/AOS. Here AM means Award of Merit and AOS means American Orchid Society.

A convey of judges examines exceptional orchids, checks all data related to the orchid and the excellence of the parentage. Various other criterias are used to see whether the specimens are indeed superior to the others of the similar type.
